The year is 2039. For twenty-five years, the last survivors of the nuclear war have fought for their existence in the tunnels beneath the radiation-ravaged city of Moscow. Now they have finally been united under the rule of Hunter, a fanatical Spartan who leads the Novoreich. However, the promised peace is nothing more than an illusion. Through propaganda, oppression and terror, Hunter maintains control over the population while preparing a new war against a mysterious enemy on the surface. Far beyond the city, a solitary man known as the Stranger lives in exile. Tormented by horrifying nightmares and memories of his past, he is forced to abandon his isolation and return to the one place he swore he would never visit again: the Metro.
METRO 2039 takes you on a terrifying journey through deadly swamps, radioactive cities and claustrophobic underground tunnels. Discover a gripping story co-written by Dmitry Glukhovsky, the bestselling author of the original METRO trilogy. Step into the role of the Stranger and uncover the truth behind his nightmares, his troubled past and the sinister events threatening the survivors of Moscow. The campaign combines tense exploration with emotional storytelling, drawing you deeper into a world where danger is ever-present and survival requires determination, resourcefulness and the courage to confront the past.
Prepare for merciless confrontations with the heavily armed soldiers of the Novoreich and terrifying mutants roaming the devastated world. Choose how to approach dangerous situations: sneak past enemies without being detected, eliminate opponents silently or confront them in brutal firefights. Use the environment to your advantage and adapt your strategy whenever circumstances change. Gather scarce materials and craft essential supplies during combat to increase your chances of survival. Every encounter demands a combination of precision, preparation and intelligent decision-making as you face increasingly dangerous threats throughout your journey.
Survival in METRO 2039 involves much more than simply firing your weapons. Avoid dangerous radiation zones, maintain and repair your equipment, and keep your electronic devices charged as you explore the hostile environment. Use your UV lamp to reveal hidden secrets and rely on specialised tools to gain access to concealed areas. Expand your arsenal with the new Shatun, an exceptionally powerful rifle, and collect blueprints to develop and customise a range of unique homemade weapons. Upgrade your protective outfit, gas mask, backpack and tools to become better equipped for the increasingly hazardous conditions awaiting you.
METRO 2039 brings its post-apocalyptic world to life with the latest evolution of the 4A Engine. Featuring advanced ray tracing, lifelike visuals and completely redesigned technology, the abandoned streets of Moscow, dark underground tunnels and dangerous wilderness are presented with remarkable detail. Claustrophobic environments, realistic lighting effects and an immersive atmosphere heighten the constant feeling of isolation and danger.
